Welcome to the Township of Union Social Studies Department

The Mission of the Township of Union Social Studies Department:

Social Studies education provides learners with the knowledge and skills needed to become active, informed citizens, both domestically and globally.  Rigorous inquiry and relevant activities will help students connect content knowledge to current global and historic issues. Through instruction in U.S. History and World History/Geography, students begin to analyze the history of the past in hopes of participating as critical thinkers and problem solvers in their world.

 

Our vision is to:

  • Challenge students to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Instill a desire for lifelong learning about the world students live in

  • Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of the variety of learners in the classroom.
  • Encouraging students to use multiple strategies to decode and comprehend a variety of text.
  • Driving instruction using the curriculum as well as formative and summative assessments.
  • Utilizing technology to enhance student learning and support effective teaching.
  • Utilizing primary sources to analyze the informational text and determine bias.
