Suzanne Licks, third grade science at Connecticut Farms School, for
equipment to create a weather data center outside the school. Students
will compare data, graph rainfall and study wind direction outside where
every student, Pre-K through grade 4, can go and see the effects of
weather.
Gregory Pardo, Administrative Intern at Connecticut Farms School, for
equipment to start an outdoor classroom. Equipment will allow all the
students to study birds, worms, spider, bees and ladybugs in their
natural habitat.
Josie Santoro, Kindergarten and First Grade teacher at Franklin School,
for a grant entitled “Animal Tales.” Students will partake in a year
long journey to emerge as writers, and will have hands-on nature
activities to spark their enthusiasm to begin writing independently.
Dolores Bullock, fifth grade teacher at Central 5 School, will receive
funds to set up a speech to text writing computer program to enable her
students to write sentences and stories.
Macro-grants of more than $750.00 have been awarded to:
Kristen Whalen, Kawameeh Middle School, to continue the program started
at the High School level for German students. She will receive
equipment to prepare students for authentic language in the real world
by connecting the German language classrooms to German language speakers
throughout the world.
John Rickel, science teacher at Union High School, will receive a
spectrophotometer to study chemical toxicity with students in the 11th
and 12th grades.
Sam
Caponegro, Erin O’Grady and Susan Lisanti, teachers at Battle Hill
School, will receive funds to help students write stories and publish
their writing through using the Story Book Weaver Computer Program.
Chris Capodice, telecast teacher at Union High School, will receive
funds to help students telecast and broadcast original Public Service
Announcements for their fellow high school students.
