When your child is unable to come to school or will be late, please call the nurse’s office before 8:00 am each day at 908-851-6466. You may also choose to e-mail me at vchi@twpunionschools.org. You can leave a voicemail starting with the name of the child (kindly spell the name slowly), grade, teacher’s name and the reason why your child is not coming to school. You can also mention when the child is coming back if the child is going to be out for several days.
Spring has sprung and allergy season is upon us again. As the weather gets warmer and wetter, pollen and molds bloom and springtime winds can stir up allergens. The result is hay fever whose symptoms include runny nose, sneezing, and swollen watery eyes. These symptoms can occur both indoors and outdoors. Here are some simple steps to help lessen or prevent allergy symptoms.
Indoors
Vacuum at least once or twice a week
Keep doors and windows closed - even in the summer! Pollen and grass can go through screens.
Change or clean the filters in air conditioners one a regular basis.
Use of a dehumidifier can also help reduce allergy symptoms.
Outdoors
Limit outdoor activities to the non-peak pollen hours. The pollen count is usually lower on cloudy days and right after (or during) a rain shower.
After being outside for a long period of time, be sure to shower and change your clothes; allergens can cling to skin, hair, and clothing.
Check the pollen count before going outside. There are many websites, newspapers, and local news stations that will broadcast the pollen count.
Always remember to bring you child to his/her pediatrician for appropriate treatment.
Sincerely,
Virgie Chi, RN
