Environmental Club

Advisor:
Ms. LaMort and Ms. Winters

Description Of Club:
Our primary goal is to encourage students and staff to recycle paper products, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles in school.  This year we’re partnering with the PTA to also recycle printer cartridges and cell phones.  We also put up the October bulletin board in the main hall to promote awareness of ecological concerns.

With the help of our principal, Mr. Bell, and our custodial staff, headed by Nelson Hernandez, our major project is packing approximately 270 cartons of used paper for Union’s recycling pick-up.  With an average weight of 24.75 pounds per carton, the grand total collected last year was over 6,680 pounds—almost 3.5 tons!

Meeting Schedule:

The club’s past projects have included a collection to save acres of the Amazon Rain Forest, participation in the Township Clean-up Day in the spring, and planting of trees from the Rutgers Extension for Earth Day and Arbor Day.
