The SuccessMaker Program

The SuccessMaker program includes various courses to improve reading, writing, and mathematics skills and a management system that assesses student progress.  One of the many strengths of the program is that teachers can modify the courses to individualize instruction.

Because the elementary school “bundle” of software ranges from kindergarten through 8th grade, there are opportunities for students to be challenged by above grade level activities as well as receive practice on concepts with which they might be having difficulty.  The Union Township School District has made a significant commitment in offering this program to our students.

Elementary school students use the program for 90 minutes a week (45 minutes for math and 45 minutes for reading.

As students answer questions, the program moves them forward or backward accordingly.  Each skill area in reading and mathematics is evaluated and the student is placed on a specific level.  (e.g. 4.2 means the students is at a 4th grade, 2nd month level.)  Teachers monitor student progress by using several of the reports available to them in the program.  A “grouping report” permits teachers to group students with common weak skill areas so that these weaknesses can be effectively addressed.   Monthly reports allow teachers to monitor each student’s progress.  In addition, this information is used to assess the probability of success in State tests.
