| ACTIVE LEARNING At Union High School, students are Active Learners. These pictures show a math lesson done in the cafeteria organized by one of UHS’s math teachers, Ms. Ann Margaret Shannon. To better understand graphing lines, the Algebra I students were physically involved in the lesson and they became the lines. The cafeteria floor was transformed into a Cartesian Coordinate Plane with students being the x-coordinates. Students were connected by a string through their belt loops and it became easy for them to identify points that did not belong on the line. As a result of the lesson, Ms. Shannon’s students were able to visualize changes in the line, thereby learning the significance of the slope of a line. ![]() |
