PUBLIC NOTICE
TWP OF UNION BOARD OF EDUCATION, UNION, NEW JERSEY
REQUEST FOR FILLING OF BOARD MEMBER VACANCY
The Twp of Union Board of Education hereby advertises its intent on filling a Board Member vacancy in
accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:12-15(f). A member so appointed shall serve until the next annual election
in November of 2025. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen and be able to read and
write – additional requirements are listed below.
Interested applicants shall submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) and a Resume (including applicant’s full
name, address, cell number) via e-mail to the Board Secretary at the following e-mail address
([email protected]) on or before FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2024 @ 5:00 P.M.

THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER:
- Each member of any board of education shall, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1:
a. Be a United States Citizen.
b. Be a resident of the district for at least one year at the time of election or appointment.
c. Be able to read and write.
d. Be a registered voter in the district where the person is submitting the nominating petition.
e. Not be “disqualified” as a voter pursuant to N.J.S.A. 19:4-1
f. Has not been convicted of any of the crimes or offenses enumerated in N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1 or
conspiracy to commit or attempt to commit any of crimes.
- Board of education members may not, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:12-2 and 12-3:
a. Be the mayor or a member of the governing body of the municipality or, in the case of special
services or vocational schools, the county, or;
b. Have a direct, or indirect, contract with or claim against the board. Additionally, pursuant to
N.J.S.A. 18A:12-3, if a board member ceases to be a resident of the district, his/her membership
on the board shall immediately cease.
