6th thru 8th Grade G&T Criteria
Students who were previously enrolled in the 5thgrade G&T program may continue in the program if:
- The student receives a minimum score of 32 or higher on their end-of-the-year G&T evaluation.
- The student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher on their 5th grade end-of-the-year report card.
- The student obtains a score of Exceeded Expectation of 780 or higher for the PARCC in ELA and Math.
- Recommendation from the students' 5th grade computer/G&T teacher.
Students who were not previously in the G&T program may be considered if they meet 6 out of the 7 of the following criteria:
- A minimum GPA of 3.5 on their 5th grade end-of-the-year report card.
- A recommendation by the student's 5th grade classroom teacher using the Revised Renzulli/Hartman.
- A recommendation by one of the student's 5th grade specials teacher using the Revised Renzulli/Hartman.
- A score of Exceeded Expectation of 780 or higher for the PARCC in ELA and Math.
- Teacher Checklist of Behavioral Characteristics of Gifted (K-5) and must have received the minimum accepted score.
- A recommendation by the student's computer/G&T teacher using the Revised Renzulli/Hartman Teacher Checklist of Behavioral Characteristics of Gifted (K-5) and must have received the minimum accepted score.
- A passing average score on the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking: Figural TTCT®: Thinking Creatively with Pictures and the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking: Verbal TTCT®: Thinking Creatively with Words.
Students who are new to the district may be considered for eligibility into the program if they meet 5 out of the 6 following criteria:
- A positive letter of recommendation from the student's previous G&T teacher in their previous school.
- A positive letter of recommendation from the parent/guardian of the student.
- A score of Exceeded Expectation of 780 or higher for the PARCC in ELA and Math.
- By the end of the 1st marking period, a recommendation by the student's classroom teachers by using the Revised Renzulli/Hartman Teacher Checklist of Behavioral Characteristics of Gifted.
- Students who receive the required minimum score on the Renzulli can be tested using the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking: Figural TTCT®: Thinking Creatively with Pictures and the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking: Verbal TTCT®: Thinking Creatively with Words.
- A writing sample will be taken, during school time, whereby the grade earned on the twenty-four point rubric will meet or exceed twenty points.
7th Grade
Students will have 2 scheduled periods of gifted and talented classes per week.
Students who were previously enrolled in the 6thgrade G&T program may continue in the program if:
- The student receives a minimum score of 32 or higher on their end-of-the-year G&T evaluation.
- The student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher on their 6th grade end-of-the-year report card.
- A score of Exceeded Expectation of 780 or higher for the PARCC for ELA and Math.
Students who were not previously in the GT program may be considered if they meet 4 out of the 5 following criteria:
- A minimum GPA of 3.5 on their 6th grade end-of-the-year report card.
- A recommendation by the student's 6th grade the core classroom teachers (Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies) using the Revised Renzulli/Hartman Teacher Checklist of Behavioral Characteristics of Gifted and must have received the minimum accepted score.
- A score of Exceeded Expectation of 780 or higher for the PARCC for ELA and Math.
- A writing sample will be taken, during school time, whereby the grade earned on the twenty-four point rubric will meet or exceed twenty points.
